Kasey Ramen - Vegan Mushroom Shoyu (Edmonton, AB)
The very first bowl of ramen my body consumed from Kasey Ramen was a Vegan Miso bowl last winter. And now we are back with a pickup kit from 2022.08.28 with a vegan shoyu flavour.
Over the last few months, I have looked forward to the vegan offerings from Kasey Ramen as it’s a style I am quite limited in experience with and because they are so tasty. I love how light they can be without leaving me with that lazy feeling after lunch (or dinner). n_n
What really set this bowl off for me was the final little touch of the fried shallot aroma oil. Sometimes in the past with the oil, I tended to use only a little, but today, I used it all. It was really that good and the piece that I assume finalized this bowl into its true form.
As per prior experiences, the noodles were superb and always a pleasant to eat. The noodles do change sometimes depending on the type of bowl being offered, but they are always something you can count on. Since these are pickup kits to prepare at home, just have to be careful when you cook them to not overcook them into the next realm.
The mushrooms (king oyster and seafood) did their job well and were paired nicely with the spinach. If I had to knock anything on this bowl, I think the menma this time were just average, at least based on my preference. I should have fried them up a little with the mushrooms. But that’s okay, I still enjoyed the menma regardless.
I normally drink all the soup unless it’s that irresistible and I almost drank all this week’s soup before the saltiness got to me. I had to stop just shy of that last gulp. But I was very pleased with the flavour of this shoyu. It’s definitely a bowl that I would like to eat again.
If you get a chance to grab a Kasey Ramen drop (usually drops Wednesdays at 5pm MST), I recommend it 100%. They are always trying new things and so much love and care goes into each bowl.
Dive in and enjoy your bowl!
