Tsukemen Ikki - Okazaki, Aichi
Today, we walked about 30 min to this gem of a ramen restaurant and we certainly didn't leave disappointed.
Our ramen today was different than previous bowls posted previously as the noodles, soup and toppings were all served seperately. This allows the soup to be made with a more thicker consistency thus resembling a ramen gravy of sorts.
So, in order to eat, you can take some of your toppings, throw them in the soup and then grab some noodles and then dip them into the soup prior to eating all that tasty goodness.
You can order different amount of noodles depending on how hungry you are feeling. I just ordered the normal amount am I am glad I didn't get more cause I was stuffed after. Also, the noodles were more on the firm side which I quite enjoyed. I am not sure if the noodles are homemade are not, but either way, the noodles complemented the soup very well.
Upon my first taste, I knew that I would have to come back again for another round. The soup is jam packed with flavour and is the star of the show. It's definitely a heavy soup so you wouldn't need anymore than what you are given. In fact, you will most likely have extra at the end so there is a little extra something you can eat, if you have some stomach space left open.
At lunch time, you get free rice and this is where it comes in handy at the end. With your leftover soup, you drop in some fresh hot rice and mix it all up. That way, you still get to enjoy all the flavour of the soup, without having to drink it completely on its own.
This is why you probably don't want to order too many noodles or if you do, just pass on the rice at the end. It's entirely up to you.
Tsukemen Ikki is now another ramen shop that is a necessary stop if you are ever in Okazaki. And when it comes to ramen, no shop is ever too out of the way.
